The recent passing of my mentor, Joy, made me reflect on the key leadership qualities she most often demonstrated: patience, calmness, knowledge, professionalism, consistency, quality, presence, organization, firmness and fairness. Reflecting on the time I spent learning from her reminds me how quickly time passes. As leaders, we only have a finite amount of time to make an impact, though, it might seem like time stands still when you are leading.
Joy invested her time in me both as a college student and as a young administrator in training. She shared her wisdom and knowledge through the most precious commodity of time. She showed her joy of leadership by giving to those she served. During this holiday season, take time to reflect on how you can show your “Joy” of leadership by sharing your time with those you lead for it will multiply positively in unexpected ways.
Joy to the World!
