A quote that is used often to explain the importance of an effective retention strategy is from the 2008 Yukon Bureau of Statistics Business Survey, “Workplaces that demonstrate the value they place in their employees and that put into place policies and practices that reflect effective retention practices will benefit, in turn, from worker commitment and productivity.”
Investment in executive leadership coaching is an effective employee retention strategy. Coaching demonstrates that the organization values the employee’s personal growth. Many organizations provide opportunities for professional growth through tuition reimbursement, conference attendance, and training programs for their employees, while cutting edge organizations also allocate resources for employee leadership coaching. The International Coach Federation defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
Some of the benefits realized from coaching are increased productivity, better communication, and talent development. Many organizations such as Google and Nestlé have committed to using coaching internally. Nestlé has moved forward with a coaching culture in a big way. As Séverine Jourdain, Head of Coaching at Nestlé, put it, “Our ambition is to fully integrate coaching into our company mindset…and make coaching…the model of our future leadership style.” Many organizations are excited to see how coaching can provide enduring development for their people.
